Meet Tyler Klimes

The return of Transatlantic Storytelling is officially underway as 16 Ball State students have been selected to participate in the second iteration of the award-winning project with Cardiff Met University in Cardiff, Wales.

The highlight of the project will be a 12-day cultural immersion trip to Wales in late February and early March 2024. While on the ground, students will collaborate with their peers in the Cardiff Met Sport Broadcast course to produce feature stories, live sporting events, studio shows and podcasts.

Tyler Klimes (Junior)

I am interested in this project because it is an opportunity of a lifetime. I have an immense passion for storytelling through many different mediums and this trip is the perfect opportunity to do what I love in a new place that I have always wanted to go.

This trip allows me to continue to grow in my craft of media and even as a person. This opportunity is truly something that could help change my perspective on life and the sports industry that I love so much. Every aspect of this study abroad program catches my interest because I know I have the skills to take on challenges and have the flexibility to learn and grow.

For most of my life,I have had an immense love for sports and for stories. I was not quite sure what to do with those passions until I entered my high school broadcasting program and fell in love with what I was doing.

This eventually brought me to Sports Link and it has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life to be a part of.

At my high school, I was mainly interested in announcing sporting events. This changed when I arrived at Ball State. Sports Link showed me all of the sides of media production and my curiosity began to grow for live broadcasts, social media, production planning, producing shows, editing, and most of all feature storytelling.

Throughout my time in Sports Link, I began to learn more about how to tell stories in a variety of ways. Now, I have been a part of dozens of Ball State ESPN broadcasts, produced four long-form feature stories, earned the role of a Producer on the award winning “Sports Link Stories” studio show, and was a producer on a Behind the Scenes documentary following the Ball State soccer team called Extra Time.

From meeting new people to experiencing a new culture, I believe there is so much I will learn. I also believe I can provide a new perspective to the people living in Wales by sharing my own personal experiences in life and in media. Above all, I want to prove to myself and to my peers that I am capable of taking on challenges through pre-production, production, and post-production.
