The return of Transatlantic Storytelling is officially underway as 16 Ball State students have been selected to participate in the second iteration of the award-winning project with Cardiff Met University in Cardiff, Wales.
The highlight of the project will be a 12-day cultural immersion trip to Wales in late February and early March 2024. While on the ground, students will collaborate with their peers in the Cardiff Met Sport Broadcast course to produce feature stories, live sporting events, studio shows and podcasts.
Jack Ashby (Junior)
I am Jack Ashby, a junior and a double major in Media and Spanish here at Ball State. Additionally, I am an active member of Sports Link mainly producing stories with video.
I am excited for Transatlantic Storytelling because I would like to gain experience in field production while expanding upon my cultural horizons. Furthermore, I enjoy working in a collaborative space with others, while achieving a common goal. Additionally, I would like to gain connections with athletes and staff within Wales.
At Ball State, I am a First-Year Peer mentor to students. This involves mentoring students in the areas of student life and academia.
Though Sports Link, I also work for the Indiana Pacers of the NBA as a video editor. In this role, I shoot and edit social media content for the Pacers and the WNBA’s Indiana Fever.
When I have time away from work and school, I enjoy playing basketball and cooking!
My tangible goals are to enhance my video production skills in a professional setting and be a leader throughout this trip. I believe my video production skills are my strength, which will assist fellow peers. I am looking forward to building stronger relationships with my fellow Sports Link members on this trip, all while teaming with students at Cardiff Met for storytelling and live broadcasts. At the end of this trip, I hope to gain leadership experience while adapting to new cultures and environments.
